Police Briefs: Interstate 24 closed in Coffee County for wreck

Interstate 24 closed in Coffee County for wreck

Interstate 24 eastbound in Coffee County was shut down for several hours Saturday after a single-vehicle crash that injured the driver and some children, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

A Ford Excursion blew a tire at the 125 mile marker and crashed, Sgt. Bill Miller said.

The vehicle carried six children who are members of a Nashville-area dance team.

The driver and two or three children were being flown to Vanderbilt University Hospital on Saturday night with unknown injuries, Miller said.

Spill shuts down Hwy 111 at SR 29

The southbound lanes of State Highway 111 north of Soddy-Daisy were closed for several hours because of a hydraulic fluid spill.

Amy Maxwell with Hamilton County Emergency Services said a roll-off truck apparently lost its hydraulics and 25 to 30 gallons of fluid spilled.

She said the hazardous materials team was cleaning up the spill and no injuries were reported.

No information was available Saturday about how the accident occurred. Staff Reports
