6-year-old Tennessee boy mauled by pit bull

A 6-year-old Blount County boy was rushed to an area hospital after being mauled by a pit bull Monday afternoon, authorities said.

The attack occurred about 4:30 p.m. at residence off Burnett Station Road, near the Blount-Knox County line, Blount County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Marian O'Briant said.

The boy, whose name has not been released, suffered severe injuries to his ears, she said. He was transported by ambulance to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. His condition was not immediately available.
