Simmons steps down as athletic director at McCallie

McCallie School athletic director C.R. "Bubba" Simmons announced his resignation Wednesday afternoon so he can take over as principal at Gordon Lee High School.

Simmons has served as AD at McCallie since 2008 and has worked at the school for almost 20 years over the course of his career.

"Bubba has been a great asset for McCallie over these past six years, and it has been a true privilege to work with him," McCallie associate head master and upper school head Kenny Sholl said in a release. "He has shown an unwavering commitment to McCallie's ideals as they pertain to our athletics program."

Jeff Romero has been appointed as dean of athletics for the upcoming school year. Romero has worked for the school's communication department since 2008, and has previous worked at Tennessee, University of Mississippi and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
