Dean to speak to Pachyderms

Vince Dean, Republican nominee for Hamilton County Criminal Court clerk, will be the guest speaker today at the Pachyderm Club.

Dean is not seeking re-election to his House District 30 seat in order to seek the clerk post. The longtime police officer also is a former East Ridge City Council member and mayor. Last week he was endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police Rock City Lodge No. 22.

The meeting is from noon-1 p.m. at GOP headquarters, 1428 Chestnut St., Suite E.

The Tennessee Valley Republican Women's annual picnic and political rally is set for 5-9 p.m. June 17 at the Chester Frost Park Pavilion, 2318 N. Gold Point Circle in Hixson.

Hensley endorses Carr

State Sen. Joey Hensley, R-Hohenwald, has endorsed Joe Carr for U.S. Senate.

"Washington has all but abandoned working families in Middle Tennessee, and we need a conservative leader like Joe Carr who will work with us to combat the growing intrusion of big government in our lives," Hensley said in a statement.

Other state lawmakers who have endorsed Carr in his bid to upset Lamar Alexander are Sen. Frank Niceley, R-Strawberry Plains, and Reps. Andy Holt, R-Dresden; Bill Sanderson, R-Kenton; and Tim Wirgau, R-Buchanan.
