Voters across Alabama are at the polls today choosing primary party candidates for governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, state auditor, Senate and House representatives, along with local races.

DeKalb County and Jackson County officials in the probate judges' offices around 8:30 a.m. CDT said there had been no reported problems at the polls.

Officials were not initially able to gauge turnout at the polls.

DeKalb County has only one contested local race in the Republican primary race for revenue commissioner between Royce L. Lader and Tyler Wilks. The rest of DeKalb's ticket consists of state races.

Jackson County voters will decide local seats for a board of education district 3 in the Democratic primary and for revenue commissioner in the Republican primary.

Democratic candidates in Jackson's school board race are Chad Anthony Gorhan and Dana Moore. Republican candidates in the race for revenue commissioners are Kermit Cornelison, Shadrick McGill and Kathy Thompson.

Also, Jackson County Republicans will pick from candidates Mo Brooks and Jerry Hill in the race for Alabama's U.S. 5th District Congressional seat.

Primary winners in these races will decide the seats since they have no opposition from the other party.

Polls close at 7 p.m. CDT.
