Harris English playing two rounds with Mickelson, Stallings

Former Baylor School golfer Harris English will play with Phil Mickelson and Scott Stallings this Thursday and Friday in the FedEx St. Jude Classic at Memphis.

English won his first PGA Tour tournament last year at this event by two strokes over both Mickelson and Stallings, a Tennessee native who played at Tennessee Tech. English will hold his pre-tournament news conference today.


Area aces

Billy Weathers recorded his second hole-in-one last Thursday at Bear Trace at Harrison Bay. He did it on No. 11, covering 140 yards with an 8-iron as Pat Hipp, Rick Carlson and Topper Gardenhire watched.

Jerry Harris sank his second hole-in-one last Friday at Brainerd. He aced No. 2, playing 145 yards, with an 8-iron while playing with Jack Harper, Matt Robertson and R.T. Choate.


Riddle, Lillar tie

Local golfers Alexander Riddle and Dylan Lillard shared medalist honors in a TGA Junior Amateur qualifier at Creeks Bend. They shot 1-over-par 71s. Reese Scobey and Tyler Johnson tied for third at 72, Cooper Sears shot 73 to qualify and Grant Bodie won a three-man playoff for the last spot. Ben Rebne is the first alternate and Tanner Owens is the second alternate. The Tennessee Junior Amateur will be played July 8-10 at the Sevierville Golf Club's River Course.


CDGA Four-ball

The Chattanooga District Golf Association four-ball match play tournament has started, and all of the higher-seeded teams have advanced to the Sweet 16. The opening round is slated to be completed by the end of Thursday. The second round should be completed by June 19. Then the semifinals and finals will be played at Black Creek Club on June 22.


Metro entries open

Entry forms for the Chattanooga Men's Metro Amateur Championship to be played July 11-13 at Brainerd are open and available at www.IfYouLikeGolf.com. It is open to amateur golfers of CDGA dues-playing clubs who live within 30 miles of a CDGA club. The entry fee is $90 per player (not including a cart fee), and that jumps to $100 on July 1. The deadline is July 7. There will be a cut in the regular division to the top 25 and ties. Anybody over 55 years old may choose to play in the senior division from the senior teeing ground.
