Surya to add 200 employees

Rug maker Surya is building a new 1 million-square-foot corporate office and distribution facility in Cartersville, Ga., adding 200 jobs to the 35-year-old company.

Surya President Satya Tiwari said the $30 million facility "will enable us to consolidate our product offerings under one roof, providing a highly efficient logistics base and the operational flexibility needed to optimally serve our designer and retailer customers." Surya had added a number of home accessory products and boosted company sales, Tiwari said.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal said Surya's expansion "is an indicator of the strength of our competitive business climate."

UAW assigns new leaders

The United Auto Workers' new president, Dennis Williams, announced assignments for the union's officers Thursday, allocating his new vice presidents to negotiate with different employer groups.

Secretary Treasurer Gary Casteel, a former regional director in Tennessee who was elected this week to the No. 2 position at the UAW, was assigned to Mitsubishi Motors Corp., and the transnational organizing and UAW finance departments.

Casteel, like other vice presidents assigned to individual work areas, will lead contract negotiations with the companies and departments they are assigned to. They will also organize in those areas.
