Mississippi Braves slams Chattanooga Lookouts, 6-1

PEARL, Miss. — Kyle Kubitza's grand slam to right field in the fifth inning broke open a tight game and delivered a 6-1 win for the Mississippi Braves against the visiting Chattanooga Lookouts in their Southern League series opener Thursday night.

Chattanooga pulled into a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning when Ryan Adams doubled and scored, but the Braves pushed ahead 2-1 on Seth Loman's RBI single to right field moments before the four-run homer.

The Lookouts dropped to 24-37 with nine games remaining in the league's first half.

Game two of the five-game series in Mississippi is tonight at 8 EDT. Tyson Brummett (4-5, 2.38 ERA) is scheduled to start on the mound for the Lookouts, with Ryan Weber (1-1, 4.58) scheduled for the Braves.

• The Lookouts' Darnell Sweeney will bat second and play second base for the North Division in the Southern League All-Star Game in Chattanooga, while Scott Schebler will bat fifth and play in the outfield.
