Hundreds lose power as storm sweeps through Chattanooga

Tuesday, June 10, 2014

More than 500 EPB customers lost power on Tuesday as 70-mile-per-hour winds lashed the Scenic City.

Between 200 and 500 EPB customers lost power in Red Bank, and another 200 to 500 lost power in Sale Creek. In the Northgate area, 100 to 200 customers lost power, according to EPB.

EPB's fiber-optic Smart Grid typically restores power to thousands of customers within a few minutes of initial outages, but those who remain without power may take longer to restore due to downed power lines.

The Smart Grid can immediately re-route power from damaged lines to undamaged ones, but some outages must be physically restored by truck crews.
