The LaFayette, Ga., City Council on Monday night named a Georgia Tech graduate to the post of city manager.
David Hamilton said Monday that he'll use his experience in management in the industrial setting in his new post in his hometown.
Hamilton, 33, is a graduate of LaFayette High School and earned an industrial engineering degree in college.
"It's going to be a new venture for me. My entire career has been managing manufacturing plants," Hamilton said.
Hamilton has worked as an engineer and manager with General Electric, working at the Roper plant in LaFayette, followed by stints in Decatur, Ala.; Bridgeville, Pa.; Cleveland, Ohio; Goldsboro, N.C.; and Circleville, Ohio, until leaving G.E. three years ago to work for Rexnord, where he ran a $110 million plant in Auburn, Ala.
Mayor Andy Arnold said Hamilton is a good choice and brings needed expertise to the city manager's office.
"We're very pleased. Everywhere that he has been, those manufacturing facilities have gotten straightened out," Arnold said, noting that interim city manager Max Morrison had done a good job filling the post over the last months.
"We wanted somebody who was a business manager," Arnold said of Hamilton. "We're tickled to have a hometown man to take over the reins."
