Quinten Dormady from Boerne, Texas has committed to play for the University of Tennessee.

The Tennessee Volunteers received a commitment earlier this week from Quinten Dormady, a quarterback from Boerne, Texas.

Dormady is rated the nation's No. 5 pro-style quarterback in the 2015 class by 247Sports.com. The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder was a guest Thursday on "Press Row" on Chattanooga's ESPN 105.1 The Zone.

Q: How old were you when you realized the magnitude of football in Texas?

A: "I moved to Texas when I was in middle school, and that's definitely the big thing. Football is huge, and going into seventh grade, I knew that's what I wanted to do. I played football and baseball until this past year, but I knew football was what I wanted to do in college and for my career."

Q: You were offered a scholarship by Tennessee on May 28 and by Alabama on June 3. Considering where Alabama and Tennessee have been in recent seasons, why did you pick Tennessee?

A: "The biggest thing was that I've had a relationship with the Tennessee coaches since January, when they started recruiting me and came down and watched me throw. That was the big thing, and I just felt like that was the fit for me. I wanted to be a part of something that's growing to win an SEC championship and a national championship here in the next few years."

Q: The year before Butch Jones came to Tennessee, he used a dual-threat and a pro-style quarterback at Cincinnati. He's shown that he can adapt to different styles, so was that appealing?

A: "I feel like I can fit in quite a few different systems, so I knew I would be fine in their system. It's a pro-style passing game, but you can put a dual-threat quarterback in there. I'm labeled as a pro-style quarterback and a pocket passer, but that doesn't mean that's all I can do."

Q: Riley Ferguson is leaving the program and Justin Worley will be a senior this year. You could walk into a very manageable depth chart and compete right away. Did that factor into your decision?

A: "It's definitely in the back of my mind, but it wasn't the big reason why I chose Tennessee. Like I said, I really like the coaching staff and have had a pretty long relationship with them. That was the biggest thing."

Q: Did the coaches tell you if they are recruiting another quarterback for the 2015 class?

A: "They got the [Murfreesboro athlete prospect Jauan] Jennings kid committed earlier, and he's a quarterback as well, but I believe I'm going to be the only quarterback in this class."

Q: Peyton Manning signed with Tennessee 20 years ago. Does the fact he played at Tennessee still resonate with recruits?

A: "Absolutely. He's still around and comes and throws with the quarterbacks in the summer and that kind of stuff, which I think is really cool. To have a relationship with a quarterback who played at Tennessee and is an NFL MVP is something I will be looking forward to."

Q: What quarterback have you been compared to the most?

A: "I've heard a couple of names, but I don't think you can compare a high school quarterback to a quarterback who plays in the league. I've heard Tom Brady as far as the pocket-passing game goes, and you want to imitate someone like Peyton because he's so intelligent and knows the game so well, so those are a couple of names."

Q: What is your favorite thing to do away from football?

A: "Just hang out with the family. I'm a family guy. I've got twin sisters and a younger brother, so I am around my family quite a bit. I play pingpong a little bit, but I'm just a big family guy."

Q: You didn't play last year because of a torn labrum. How excited are you to get this decision out of the way so you can focus on your senior year?

A: "That was the plan all along -- to make the decision before my senior year so that I could focus on that. My dad is my head coach, so I can enjoy my last year with him as he coaches me."

Q: How hard of a decision was it to enroll early?

A: "I made the decision last summer, so I took a class during the summer so I could be on track for that. It wasn't a hard decision, because I knew what I wanted to do. I wanted to be a Division I quarterback, and it's huge for the quarterback position to get in there for the spring and start learning the playbook."

Q: Who was your favorite quarterback growing up?

A: "Brett Favre. I'm a huge Packers fan."

Q: What Tennessee paraphernalia do you have so far?

A: "I've got a shirt, and I just ordered a hat. I'm starting my collection, so I'm ordering stuff. I'm getting ready."
