Walker deputy hurt, police dog killed

A K-9 deputy with the Walker County Sheriff's Office was killed, and a male deputy wounded on Friday night while responding to a reported rape, according to WRCB.

The police dog, Tanja, who had only been working with the sheriff's office for eight weeks, was shot and killed when 58-year-old Steven Lee Waldemer, a convicted felon on parole in Idaho, opened fire on deputies at the 300 block of Moon Lake Road, near State Line Road in North Georgia, WRCB reported. Waldemer was in custody.

The male deputy was hit in the neck by a stray bullet, and his condition is currently unknown, WRCB reported.
