A 28-year-old Chattanooga man is in the Hamilton County Jail without bond and facing federal charges after a string of undercover cocaine purchases.

Jeremy Labral Ellis had a preliminary hearing in federal court Monday. He was booked at the jail Friday, according to Hamilton County booking reports.

On June 3, narcotics detectives investigated Ellis' residence at 3808 Youngstown Road and found $6,400 wrapped in a plastic bag in the trunk of a disabled Chevrolet Monte Carlo. They also found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the car.

For several months officers monitored the man's activity. Over the course of five undercover buys, police bought 145 grams of crack cocaine from Ellis. Some of the money they found had been marked by police to use in the sting.

Ellis told investigators he's been unemployed for a year.
