Two face charges after 24-year-old woman left to die in vehicle

Calhoun, Ga., police have charged a man and a woman in connection with the June 11 death of 24-year-old local resident Haley Stanley.

David Bastin and Francis Leming face one count each of involuntary manslaughter in Stanley's death, according to a Calhoun police department news release.

"It appears the suspects drove the victim to the location where she was discovered and left her without any regard for her safety or well-being," the statement reads. "Based on information we received during our investigation we do not believe the suspects directly caused the death of Miss Stanley however we do believe the victim was alive and in obvious distress when she was abandon(ed) by the suspects," police Lt. Tony Pyle wrote in the statement.

Stanley was found in her vehicle near the VFW post on East Line Street in Calhoun on June 11, 2014.

Bastin is in custody at the Gordon County Jail. Leming is still being sought by police.

Information on Leming's whereabouts can be reported to the Calhoun Police Department at (706) 629-1234.
