Former Tennessee defensive back Janzen Jackson, one of the most coveted recruits in the nation only five years ago, has been sitting in jail since last September on $1 million bond, charged with strangling her mother's boyfriend in California.

Jackson's situation apparently only came to light last month, when the Los Angeles Register covered a hearing in the case. The story was apparently republished online Tuesday and quickly spread among stunned college football fans.

According to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department online records, Jackson is being held in the agency's Twin Towers Correctional Facility. His next court date is July 15.
