America's oldest maker of tailor-made clothing has a new owner and a new lease on life with the acquisition of the 134-year-old company this week by Cleveland, Tenn., businessman Allan Jones. Jones completed his $1.9 million purchase of the bankrupt Hardwick Clothes Inc., and said he plans to make other investments to revive the company.
"I am convinced the pendulum is swinging back to 'Made in America,' after the Men's Wearhouse acquisition of Joseph Abboud - one of America's traditional suitmakers," said Jones, founder and CEO of the payday lending business, Check Into Cash.
Thomas H. Hopper, the chairman and president of Hardwick Clothes, said he would remain with the company as Jones takes the reins.
Keurig adds 550 jobs
Keurig Green Mountain, Inc., will open a manufacturing facility near Atlanta for its new cold beverage dispensing machines, creating approximately 550 new jobs and investing $337 million over the next five years.
The new 585,000-square-foot plant in Douglas County west of Atlanta will make pods for the company's new in-home cold beverage system. In February, Keurig and Coca-Cola entered into a long-term, global strategic partnership to collaborate on the development and introduction of Coca-Cola's global brand portfolio for use in the Keurig Cold beverage system by 2015.
