Lee University running coach Caleb Morgan won the Market Street Mile in downtown Chattanooga on Saturday with a time of 4 minutes, 40.60 seconds. Joseph Goetz was second in 4:41.07, with Daniel Hamilton (4:44.83), Ross Tilghman (4:53.60) and Drew Streip (4:55.73) also under five minutes. Emily Bell was the women's winner and 28th overall in 5:45.57, and Bert Hull (eighth, 5:05.52) and Lisa Logan (54th, 6:28.35) were the masters winners. Tim Ensign (10th, 5:06.21) and Corinne Henderson (66th, 7:06.o6) were the grand masters winners, and David Peterson (38th, 6:00.69) and Jane Webb (109th, 9:38.23) were the top senior grand masters.

Soccer

• The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer team announced its finalized 2014 schedule this past week, and the 19 matches include 10 at Finley Stadium. The season will start with three road games -- Aug. 17 at Alabama-Huntsville, Aug. 22 at UNC Asheville and Aug. 24 at Austin Peay -- before 15th-year coach J.D. Kyzer's Mocs host Tennessee Temple on Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. and Gardner-Webb two days later at 1 p.m. Home matches against Lipscomb and Tennessee Tech follow before UTC visits Vanderbilt on Sept. 14. Another four-game home stand runs from Sept. 21 to Oct. 5, including the first three Southern Conference games of the season. East Tennessee State, Virginia Military Institute and Mercer are new league foes this year. Crystal Mackezyk returns for her senior season after leading the Mocs with 19 points on six goals and seven assists in 2013, including two game-winning goals.

Golf

• UTC golfer Zac Stolz closed with a 71 Saturday and tied for 11th at 283 in the Rice Planter's Amateur tournament at Snee Farm Country Club in Mount Pleasant, S.C. Mocs teammate Wes Gosselin finished with a 69 and a tie for 26th in the Greystone Invitational in Birmingham, where Stuart Thomas tied for 52nd.

Volleyball

• The call of a dramatic 3-point basket by Carson-Newman's Ish Sanders from Cleveland won the inaugural Stretch Internet's Call of the Year announcing contest last year for Adam Cavalier, and another highlight for an area athlete at the Jefferson City, Tenn., university has Cavalier's CNU communications associate Michael Wottreng in the running this year. In fact, Cavalier and Wottreng both are among the eight semifinalists in the 2013-14 competition. Cavalier is a candidate for his call of tight end James Phillips' 19-yard touchdown catch against Lenoir-Rhyne in the NCAA Division II football playoffs. Wottreng is in for his description of an under-the-net volleyball save by Boyd-Buchanan graduate Rachel Harper against Lincoln Memorial. "To pull in enough votes to get two semifinalists from the same school is insane to me," Cavalier said in a release. "I'm so proud of Michael. ... He was presented with an exceptionally difficult play, and he handled it with aplomb."
