COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has obtained indictments for a Knoxville woman accused of plotting the murder of, and then killing, her husband.

At the request of 10th District Attorney General Steve Bebb, TBI special agents began investigating Martha Ann McClancy on Nov. 1, 2012. On May 15, 2006, Monroe County sheriff's deputies responded to a call at the family's home on Unicoi Lake Road in Tellico Plains, Tenn., where they found the body of Martha Ann's husband, Robert McClancy, with a pistol in one hand and a bottle of pills in the other. Investigators did not find a gunshot wound on his body.

On Dec. 20, 2012, as part of the continuing investigation - and with the assistance of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Social Security Administration's Offices of Inspector General - agents took a statement from Charles Kaczmarczyk, during which he stated he and Martha Ann McClancy, who married Charles after her husband's death and took his name, conspired to kill Robert McClancy by overdosing him with prescription medicine.

Subsequently, Charles Kaczmarczyk pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder on Sept. 16, 2013. The woman has since filed for divorce and dropped Kaczmarczyk's name.

On Nov. 6, 2013, the Monroe County grand jury returned indictments for Martha Ann McClancy, charging the 64-year-old with firs-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.
