Rising country music star Weston Burt will headline Libertyfest III, the annual family fun festival preceding Independence Day in East Ridge.

Gates open at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at Camp Jordan Park, with food, craft and merchandise vendors, plus bouncy houses and slides for the kids. A karaoke contest will start at noon, with a grand prize of $1,000 to the winner. Fireworks will cap off the day at 10:30 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the East Ridge Merchants Association and the city of East Ridge.

Burt cites Brooks & Dunn, Garth Brooks, Lynyrd Skynyrd and fellow Fort Payne musicians Alabama as influences. He learned to play guitar listening to Alabama's songs.

"The first song I ever learned was 'Dixieland Delight,'" he said. "Just being from the same place as they were made me realize that it was possible to make it. With Alabama, I saw that it could happen."

He has released the singles "Lucky Sometimes" and "Smile That Smile."
