Jonathan and Lindsey Frost win Judges' Choice at dancing benefit

What: More than 1,000 guests watched as local amateurs danced a variety of ballroom styles while vying to win one of three mirrorballs awarded at Dancing with the Chattanooga Stars.

Jonathan and Lindsey Frost were named the Judge's Choice winners. The Frosts were the first husband-and-wife team to compete in the local ballroom dancing contest based on ABC's popular reality television show. Tracie Lesar won the Grand Dancing Champion Award as the top fundraiser among the dancing contestants. She raised $61,000, a new individual record. Melinda Winslett won the Fan Favorite Award.

Dancers: Tim Bryant, Brennan L. Francois, the Frosts, Tracie Lesar, Hodgen Mainda, Jennifer McFarland, Diane Parks and Belinda Winslett. Each amateur was paired with a professional dancer from Fred Astaire Dance Studio.


Arts League presents check, awards scholarships

What: Members of the Performing Arts League Inc. presented a $14,000 check to Howard High School's band to help fund new uniforms for its musicians. The donation was raised through proceeds of the league's Motown Downtown fundraiser.

Also, the league awarded 14 instrumental students scholarships to pay for summer music camps and/or private lessons. The recipients are members of the CSO youth orchestras.
