A man wanted on multiple felony arrest warrants in Georgia is in custody after a two-hour standoff with the Cleveland Police Department's SWAT team Thursday night.

Officers were following up on an investigation of an armed suspect who had evaded police and was wanted in Georgia for violation of parole after a robbery conviction when they received a tip that he was at a location on Adkisson Drive.

Police arrived at the location about 11:30 p.m., and Larry Donail Silmon, 30, had barricaded himself inside an apartment with a 12-year-old child, Cleveland Police Department Public Information Officer Evie West said in an e-mail.

Negotiators and the SWAT team arrived shortly thereafter and began negotiating for the release of the 12-year-old.

The child walked out of the apartment after about two hours, and the SWAT team entered and discovered Silmon hiding in the attic, West said.

Silmon was taken into custody, and two handguns were recovered. Cleveland police also are charging Silmon with being a convicted felon in possession of a weapon, according to West.
