Fake restaurant manager arrested

ATLANTA - Atlanta police say a woman in a Waffle House uniform accused of pretending to be a company manager and stealing about $100 later returned to the restaurant to give the cash back.

But officer Kim Jones told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the suspect -- 35-year-old Katie Marie McCrary, of Decatur, Ga. -- was apprehended Wednesday when she returned to the business in the southeast part of the city.

DeKalb County Jail records show McCrary faces a theft charge. The jail records do not list an attorney for McCrary.

Jones said the suspect began acting as an area manager and conducted an inspection of the restroom area, then continued her routine as real area managers do before she took cash from the register.

Jones said investigators don't believe McCrary is or was a Waffle House employee.

Police say teen in creek drowned

A Johns Creek teenager found dead in a creek on New Year's Day accidentally drowned, a police investigation has determined.

A couple walking their dog on a trail near Taylor Road Middle School discovered 18-year-old Cody J. Bohnet's body face down in a creek about a quarter-mile from the school, according to Johns Creek police spokesman Doug Nurse.

"An autopsy by the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office showed no signs of trauma on the body and determined Bohnet died by drowning," Nurse said Friday in an emailed statement. "A physical inspection of the area revealed nothing unusual. Toxicology analysis by the GBI found traces of THC, the high-inducing chemical in marijuana, but no other chemicals."

Man charged in house arson

WOODVILLE, Ala. - A January house fire in Woodville has been ruled arson and a man has been charged, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

The Woodville Fire Department battled the Jan. 27 fire at a house on County Road 8, and firefighters were suspicious of the cause, a news release stated. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office and the Alabama State Fire Marshal's Office determined that accelerants were used to start the fire.

Based on the investigation, Joshua Patrick Turner, 23, of Woodville, was arrested Thursday on a charge of second-degree arson and booked into the Jackson County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

The release didn't state a motive for the crime.

Mother charged in burning death

ALABASTER, Ala. - Alabaster police found the body of a 19-month-old boy inside a burning car and charged the boy's mother with reckless murder.

Police Chief Curtis Rigney says officers and firefighters responded to a one-car accident early Friday morning. When they arrived, they found 22-year-old Sommer Nicole Wilford of Maylene standing outside the burning car.

When they extinguished the fire, they found the child's body inside. The mother was charged with reckless murder and was being held under $300,000 bond.

Police did not say what prompted them to bring the charge.

Court records don't indicate if Wilford has an attorney yet.
