The Chattanooga-based Double Cola goes natural
The Chattanooga-based Double Cola Co. is launching natural products Minoku Coconut Water and Zili Tea at the Natural Products Expo West this week in Anaheim, Calif.
"What truly sets us apart from the competition is the careful balancing of young and mature green coconuts ethically harvested from Thailand, and the addition of B vitamins in a RTD tea line, which Zili Tea has captured," said Larry Butler, the company's business development manager.
Double Cola is adding to its staff to help market the new natural line of products in new markets.
TVA completes ash pond wall
The Tennessee Valley Authority has completed an earthquake-resistant, underground retaining wall around the containment cell built after the Kingston ash spill five years ago. The wall, which completely surrounds the 240-acre containment cell where recovered ash will be permanently stored, was recently completed after nearly three years of construction.
More than 200,000 tons of cement and other materials were used to construct the wall, which is embedded 70 feet into the bedrock and is the largest wall of its kind in the U.S. -- equivalent to 12 miles in length..
It is the largest wall of its kind in the U.S. at nearly 64,000 linear feet, the equivalent of 12 miles, and is designed to withstand a magnitude 6.0 earthquake.
"While slurry wall technology has been used by the environmental protection industry for many years, the application at TVA's Kingston site is very unique due to the complex, seismic design; construction techniques; comprehensive geotechnical quality control requirements, and overall size of the wall," said Craig Zeller, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's on-site administrator.
