about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

You know what would have been cheaper and much less intrusive than obamacare? Letting the uninsured just go to emergency rooms for care like they always have, and let the taxpayers pay for it, like we always have.

That was much cheaper than forcing a gargantuan government run bureaucratic nightmare on people for the sole purpose of furthering the people's dependence on government and garnering votes for democrats.

Know this folks. obamacare was NEVER about insuring the uninsured. It was ALWAYS about expanding the dependence of people on government. The CBO even claims that when all is said and done, there's STILL about 15-30 million people that will remain uninsured. You liberals who are die-hard believers that Obama did this for the good of the masses are either entirely complicit or have your heads up your asses.

The proof that the disastrous roll-out was a planned event is the fact that not a single person ever got fired.

If alpo's greatest achievement was embarrassingly botched by some subordinate he left in charge, would he fire him/her? If not, that would make him an incompetent person at best, or complicit in a conspiracy at worse. Obamacare was designed to fail. It went better than expected.

Democrats are great achievers at designing things to fail. It's designing things to succeed that they can't grasp

The fact that nobody got fired over obamacare is more proof than we need. The proof is in the pudding folks.

And where is your "proof" that the unfortunate roll-out of the ACA was "orchestrated"?

When someone shows up to the ER and receives care then doesn't pay their bill, the hospital passes on the costs onto the people that have health insurance. Not to mention, have you ever gone down to Erlanger's ER on a weekend? A buddy of mine had to go on a Friday a few months ago and ended up sitting in the waiting room for about 3 hours. He said you couldn't find a seat in the lobby.

The problem with HC is the government has been shoveling it money for years. This drives up prices and then when poor people or people with a health history can't afford HC you end up being responsible for them. The HI industry has been bad for years. But people who get insurance through an employer have been insulated from a lot of the issues as well as have been the benefit of govt tax charity.

Don't you know Clay Bennett has to be lonely considering the fact that he is a gay man living in a Republican Red State. Oh and Clay the cartoon should be the Obamacare website going down once again.

As with any product, especially health insurance demand drives volume. Apparently the lie that was told about the millions of uninsured in the U.S., a number that seem to change weekly was grossly overstated. Yes as time and the numbers enrolling for Obamacare have shown, yes there are a few million without care but many have "chosen" not to buy insurance and they especially don't want health insurance unless it is FREE.

And Gausingerboy.......it is a good thing that part of the reason people are motivated to land a good job is the possibility of good reasonably priced health insurance. We have enough off the grid freeloaders wanting free stuff and old codgers like yourself on guvment relief. Now off to Honors for the day. Driving the Red 57 Chevy. Ta Ta Losers!

I see...let's turn emergency rooms into walk-in clinics, overburdening them to the point that emergencies take a back seat for those with the sniffles.

Who cares if a few people die every now and then because they are unable to receive the emergency care necessary to preserve their lives?

"That was much cheaper than forcing a gargantuan government run bureaucratic nightmare on people for the sole purpose of furthering the people's dependence on government and garnering votes for democrats."

You're just sore because the Democrats actually got something done and beat the Republicans to the punch!!

But of course. Everything is a conspiracy.

"The CBO even claims that when all is said and done, there's STILL about 15-30 million people that will remain uninsured."

Predictions are not facts. The jury is still out on what will happen and it's going to take a few years to see how it all filters out.

Massachusetts had the same problem. 96% are insured today.

"You liberals who are die-hard believers that Obama did this for the good of the masses are either entirely complicit or have your heads up your asses."

Blah blah blah, blah blah. Do you have an original point...ever?

"The proof that the disastrous roll-out was a planned event is the fact that not a single person ever got fired."

Imagine that. An environment where people are not shelved for making mistakes, but empowered to correct them instead.

BTW...seen any stories about a disfunctional website lately? I guess they got the damn thing fixed, just like the Republicans did when the Part-D Medicare website when got off to a shaky start, when it was the Republicans in charge of things.

"If alpo's greatest achievement was embarrassingly botched by some subordinate he left in charge, would he fire him/her? If not, that would make him an incompetent person at best, or complicit in a conspiracy at worse. Obamacare was designed to fail. It went better than expected."

When are people like yourself going to face the fact that ObamaCare is here to stay, it will continue to grow, and the fact that it will be a shining success in time?

I don't throw people under a bus. Humans make mistakes. Everyone in this entire world has made mistakes. ObamaCare was the largest undertaking of a national health care system ever engineered in the world. Of course there were going to be mistakes made.

There will be plenty more made before all the kinks are ironed out.

Deal with it or whine for the rest of your life. It's your choice.

Obama was referring to 'legitimate' insurance plans, not crap policies that had to drop customers because their coverage fell below new basic insurance requirements. I know. I used to have one of those policies years ago when I was starting a business. I thought it was great, thought it was reasonably priced, and the agent seemed informative. And I might still have that policy if I never, you know, broke a couple of ribs and discovered everything it DIDN'T cover.

So the President said fine, anyone can keep those crap policies for another two years if you want. But god help anyone who requires medical treatment because the insurance companies sure won't.

37th best in the world! We're 37th!, We're 37th!, We're 37th!, We're 37th!

Let’s look at the details of that 37th ranking.

http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB125608054324397621?mg=reno64-wsj&url=http%3A%2F%2Fonline.wsj.com%2Farticle%2FSB125608054324397621.html

The trouble is, the ranking is dated and flawed, and has contributed to misconceptions about the quality of the U.S. medical system. It is based on a report released nearly a decade ago (14 years now) by the World Health Organization and relies on statistics that are even older and incomplete.

The ranking was faulted because it judges health-care systems for problems -- cultural, behavioral, economic -- that aren't controlled by health care.

Philip Musgrove, the editor-in-chief of the WHO report that accompanied the rankings, calls the figures that resulted from this step "so many made-up numbers," and the result a "nonsense ranking."

A WHO spokesman says the organization has no plans to update the rankings, and adds, "We would not consider it current."

Still, people often claim that the 37th-place ranking refers to quality or outcomes. High spending rates pushed the ranking down but didn't degrade the quality of care.

Some think that if the U.S. health-care system isn't responsible for troubling outcomes, trying to fix it doesn't provide the best return on investment.

"We might get more bang for the buck by setting aside some of our health-care money to support novel approaches to improve nutrition, education, exercise or public safety," says Alan Garber, an economist and professor of medicine at Stanford University. "Not every health problem has a medical solution."

4 MILLION AND COUNTING

The March numbers will push that total higher, but right now there are at least 4 million more Americans with health insurance policies purchased from private insurance companies than there were 6 months ago.

Insurance exchanges offer Americans a choice, and when insurance companies compete for business they are forced to offer the best coverage at the best price.

But tea baggers want to go back to the 'good old days' of medical socialism where the uninsured were allowed to go get free medical care at ERs.

If you tea baggers love socialism that much move to Russia where you can worship your idol Vlad 'the impaler' Putin. We progressives prefer capitalism, free enterprise, and competition.

SOCIAL SECURITY BOARD OF TRUSTEES ANNOUNCE SOCIAL SECURITY SOLVENT UNTIL 2032

I’m supposed to trust a statement that can’t make up its mind as to the date being 2032 or 2038?

This just in from the Congressional Budget Office: A report released today by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) reveals that the Social Security trust fund is actually in better shape than previously thought.CBO now projects the trust fund won’t run out until 2038, a slight improvement over previous estimates and a reassuring reminder of the fund’s solvency for the next several decades.

That must be so reassuring to anyone 45 years old or younger to know they are paying into a system that will be insolvent by the time they need it ... Thanks Fleabaggers!!

In the ongoing battle over deficit reduction, Republicans have insisted on deep cuts to Social Security, even though the program doesn’t contribute to the deficit.

The Federal government borrows money from the S.S. trust fund just like they do from China. Why does the loan from China count against the deficit and the S.S. loan does not?

Wally said, "You mean programs like Social Security (established in 1935) and Medicare established in 1966)? Those are two of the most successful programs this country has ever known -- both brought to you by the Democratic Party."

You have left out something. 1. The government can reduce the amount owed by simply raising the retirement age. I can now access my ss at age 70. (Use to be 55). Greatly reducing the amount needed to pay out 2. The collapse of the value of a dollar over the past 15 years. 3. No cost of living raise for seniors recently 4. Politicians can confiscate of reduce the amount we receive from ss at anytime.

So yeh, " social security is solvent" is not a total lie. It's just a hopeful Ponzi scheme.

Americans should chose a plan they can own over a non-legally binding governmental promise.

And Obamacare is as useless as a palestinian alarm clock. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=X7_0NoRHOEM

Okay JT, you are admitting that the old system isn't any better than Obamacare, so why the desire to repeal the law?

You mean I didn’t mention that? Wait! ... What? ... I think I did.

"Know this folks. obamacare was NEVER about insuring the uninsured. It was ALWAYS about expanding the dependence of people on government."

But of course. Everything is a conspiracy.

Not everything ... Just the B.S. that Fleabaggers propose.

"The CBO even claims that when all is said and done, there's STILL about 15-30 million people that will remain uninsured."

Predictions are not facts. The jury is still out on what will happen and it's going to take a few years to see how it all filters out.

So we won’t see you touting any projections or studies about the possibilities of future activities to prove any point you are trying to make?

Massachusetts had the same problem. 96% are insured today.

You're not using that to make a prediction ... are you?

"You liberals who are die-hard believers that Obama did this for the good of the masses are either entirely complicit or have your heads up your asses."

Blah blah blah, blah blah. Do you have an original point...ever?

The Blah, etc. sure was original

"The proof that the disastrous roll-out was a planned event is the fact that not a single person ever got fired."

Imagine that. An environment where people are not shelved for making mistakes, but empowered to correct them instead.

Empowered ... I really like that ... 2+2 doesn’t equal 5 but we don’t really want to damage your self esteem ... Right?

I almost missed your latest false accusation concerning myself:

Unfortunately for you, I didn't. You placed your short false accusation too close to my comment at 3:41 p.m. March 8, 2014 so I noticed it.

Now in the past, I have allowed you to run after I challenged you to prove your false accusations.

No more. I will continue to challenge you to substantiate your accusation OR admit your lie.

I only quoted Mr. Anthony Provancher at 3:41 p.m. March 8, 2014 WITH NO WORDS OF MY OWN. I also quoted the words of Jesus Christ who is the second person of the Trinity - God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ was holy, sinless God incarnate.

TO DENY THAT JESUS IS GOD AND THAT HE SINNED IS EGREGIOUS BLASPHEMY!

No words of mine were added at all, so it was impossible for me to "spew venom." So, you are left with Mr. Anthony Provancher spewing venom. You couldn't possible mean Jesus Christ could you?

conservative, you REALLY need to read the Bible. It PROVES Jesus is not God.

Deuteronomy 6:4 - "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one."

Matthew 24:36 - Jesus said: "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only."

Mark 10:18 - "Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good–except God alone."

conservtive wrote: "TO DENY THAT JESUS IS GOD AND THAT HE SINNED IS EGREGIOUS BLASPHEMY!"

To deny what you claim to be the word of God, leaves you in a bit of pickle, doesn't it?

Why not admit, just for once, that you CANNOT explain this one, among many such discrepancies that exist in the Bible?

You can demean me, call me whatever you wish, but there is no way on God's green Earth that you can refute my words.

This is absolutely why your only course of action is to keep posting my words.

They are as true as can be, aren't they, and you equally clueless in your ability to debate the Bible.

I can't believe there are people who would think Obama is anything but the worst president of all time.

Tell me Alp, how is it the dear leader brings forth another budget that increases the debt $5 trillion over the next few years, bringing us close to the ever magical $25 trillion debt limit where we mathematically can never pay it off, and no one cares? What happened to "our debt is a matter of national security, and I won't vote to raise the debt ceiling another cent." That was Mr. Obama, when W was president. If you can't see a purposeful destruction of the dollar and the American economy through their actions then you are blind or slow.

What happens when the fed can no longer artificially hold down interest rates with stimulus money? We won't even be able to pay the interest on out debt that they've racked up, never-mind principle.

How can you defend this economic terrorism being perpetrated by this administration? He outright lied.

Never mind the IRS, Benghazi, FCC, and Obamacare scandals, the EPA shutting down coal in West VA, VA, and Pennsylvania, and the Keystone pipeline, fracking and other energy and job producing projects to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and create jobs. It's as if his purpose is to cost American jobs, not create them. He talks about the middle class, then shrinks their hours to 30/week through Obamacare.

If you voted for Obama, you voted for the destruction of this country, and the fact you still don't see it shows what a disconnect there is between reality and the democrat party.

We are quickly approaching a red line of no return with our debt and economy, and for them to release that joke of a budget this past week shows me they are intentionally destroying America from within.

WATCH THE FINE PRINT

Zab proclaimed, "if you like your plan you can keep it" The worst lie every told to the American people. Seriously?

I don’t know if it was the “worst lie ever” but it did collect quite a few awards for 2013.

How about WMD in Iraq?

It was a general held fact, in the U.S. political system, that before the war there were WMD’s in Iraq. That was fortified by our intelligence community’s belief that it was also a fact. After the invasion there was two bipartisan investigations by the Senate Intelligence Committee and the Iraq Intelligence Commission and they both found no evidence of political pressure applied to intelligence analysts.

Or, Invading Iraq has NOTHING to do with oil?

‘If Zarqawi and [Osama] bin Laden gain control of Iraq, they would create a new training ground for future terrorist attacks,” Bush said. ”They’d seize oil fields to fund their ambitions.” - President George W. Bush

Seems like he thought it was partially about oil.

Or, We can balance the federal budget by cutting taxes on the rich and increasing defense spending?

You’ll have to reference this one as I don’t think anybody made that statement.

Oh Yes!! ... the old “crap insurance” talking point ... that one got old and rancid within days of being issued to try and spin the fact that Obama had been tagged as the #1 liar of 2013. The fact that you ignorantly purchased a policy that didn’t suit your needs has no reflection on those that are informed consumers.

BTW ... I’ve heard that those broken rib “surgeries” are very expensive and insurance companies won’t usually cover them ... LMFAO!

So the President said fine, anyone can keep those crap policies for another two years if you want. But god help anyone who requires medical treatment because the insurance companies sure won't.

I’m not going to call on a God to help protect us, from B.S. Fleabaggery such as Obamacare, as that would most likely be futile. We can only hope that the voting public come to their senses and vote ‘you people” out of any positions of power before it is too late.

"Deficits don't matter" - Dick Cheney.

"What happened to "our debt is a matter of national security, and I won't vote to raise the debt ceiling another cent." That was Mr. Obama, when W was president."

And I'm sure there is a politician out there somewhere spouting the same thing, who IF elected President, would walk back that statement by practice.

"If you can't see a purposeful destruction of the dollar and the American economy through their actions then you are blind or slow."

I've stated many times that the dollar against International currencies is of no concern to myself. I'm a domestic kinda guy. A dollar is worth a dollar in the U.S., just as it always has been.

"What happens when the fed can no longer artificially hold down interest rates with stimulus money? We won't even be able to pay the interest on out debt that they've racked up, never-mind principle."

This nation has been in debt for most of the last 100 years, and we STILL have not rivaled the debt that existed following WWII.

I'm sure some people were up in arms back then too.

"How can you defend this economic terrorism being perpetrated by this administration? He outright lied."

With my vote.

"Never mind the IRS, Benghazi, FCC, and Obamacare scandals"

Now you're getting it. Never mind. There's nothing to the Republican witch hunt that has gone exactly nowhere.

"the EPA shutting down coal in West VA, VA, and Pennsylvania"

Really? All coal production has been halted? That's news to me.

"and the Keystone pipeline, fracking and other energy and job producing projects to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and create jobs."

Hey...let's build that pipeline and start fracking near your home FIRST, then get back to us in a year or so, and let's see how you feel about it. Fair enough?

"It's as if his purpose is to cost American jobs, not create them. He talks about the middle class, then shrinks their hours to 30/week through Obamacare."

Blah, blah, blah...blah blah.

"If you voted for Obama, you voted for the destruction of this country, and the fact you still don't see it shows what a disconnect there is between reality and the democrat party."

Well guess what? Settle in, because the Republicans are not going to be returned to power anytime soon.

"We are quickly approaching a red line of no return with our debt and economy, and for them to release that joke of a budget this past week shows me they are intentionally destroying America from within."

And the sky is going to fall next week too.

But ... But ... we are 37th ... Right?

The No. 37 figure comes from a 2000 World Health Organization report that attempted to grade nations’ health care according to five factors and assign an overall ranking to each. One problem is that the report is nine (14 years now - Jt) years old and hasn’t been updated since. WHO couldn’t gather all the appropriate data for all nations, so its researchers had to make some assumptions and calculations using other bits of information, such as literacy rates and income.

WHO researchers looked at, according to the group itself, "overall level of population health; health inequalities (or disparities) within the population; overall level of health system responsiveness (a combination of patient satisfaction and how well the system acts); distribution of responsiveness within the population (how well people of varying economic status find that they are served by the health system); and the distribution of the health system’s financial burden within the population (who pays the costs)."

The U.S. did come in first place in the responsiveness category, (What I look for in a healthcare system ... don’t you? - Jt) but didn’t do as well in other categories, such as who pays the costs and level of health, which was based on disability-adjusted life expectancy. Bialik also notes that the U.S. ranked much higher – 15th on "overall goal attainment"– before WHO factored in health care spending per capita. This cost-conscious measure dropped the U.S. to 37th.

"Deficits don't matter" - Dick Cheney.

Since you provide no context I have to ask ... Did he say that with a political or economic meaning? If political then he is surely right in that Reagan, Bush II, and of course, the master of all deficit running presidents, Obama were all re-elected after running up significant deficits.

If he was talking of deficits in the economic sense, during normal economic times, he would be wrong? However when he said it the nation was in a recessionary period and he referenced it also to a recessionary period in Reagan’s first term. During those periods, deficits do not matter in a harmful sense and are in fact helpful especially when created by letting the taxpayer keep more of their money to spend in the economy.

The problem, always is, that politicians don’t know when to quit because it is so politically painful to take the masses' government provided teats away from them.
