Tennessee Temple University lost 61-38 to Washington Adventist in the USCAA Division I men's basketball national championship game Saturday night at Penn State Fayette in Uniontown, Pa.
Fourth-seeded Washington Adventist, from Takoma Park, Md., had upset top-seeded Daemen College in the semifinals. Pacing the Shock (21-8) on Saturday were Tyrus Fleetwood and Anthony Berry with 15 points apiece, Fleetwood with nine rebounds and four assists, and Eric Lindsey with 12 points, five steals and four assists.
Temple's sixth-seeded Crusaders were led by Elliot Johnson with 12 points and nine rebounds, and Jarrett Smith had six assists and seven rebounds but shot only 1-of-7 from field. The team shot 34.1 percent and made only five of 14 free throws while committing 21 turnovers. The Shock shot 39.6 percent from the field and hit 19 of 27 foul shots.
will take a 21-12 record under first-year coach Jeff Haarlow into the National Christian College Athletic Association Mid-East Regional with the hope of returning to the NCCAA nationals.
