For the second time in less than two months, a fire has damaged hundreds of tombstones at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Fire investigators are trying to determine what caused the one-acre grass fire on Sunday. The fire damaged 500 tombstones before firefighters extinguished it.

Another fire occurred at the cemetery on Sunday, January 19, and scorched about five acres and 1,800 tombstones. The cause of that fire was not determined.

Investigators with the Department of Veterans Affairs and the state bomb and arson office will be involved in an investigation of the fires, according to a news release.
