KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A University of Tennessee, Knoxville, 4-H Extension initiative has received a $4.9 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for obesity prevention.
The initiative is called "Get Fruved," a term that alludes to fruits and vegetables.
According to the school, the program will get over 1,000 students at 13 universities around the country to work on healthy living campaigns. They could be anything from stress management, to campus gardens, to healthy food access. Over time, the college students will move beyond their campuses to partner with high school students on programs in the high schools.
The hope is to eventually secure funding that will allow the high school students to help middle school students and the middle school students help elementary students.
