University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Taylor Hall followed up being the Southern Conference women's basketball player of the year and most outstanding player in the conference tournament with selection as the league's student-athlete of the week. A rehabilitation sciences major, Hall has a 3.636 grade point average and plans to go to medical school after graduation in May. She also was recognized Tuesday by the NCAA as one of the "Starting Five" from last week's women's conference tournaments.

• The 17th-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan Lady Bulldogs lost 77-59 to No. 16 Siena Heights in the NAIA Division II women's basketball tournament Wednesday afternoon in Sioux City, Iowa. Senior post player Cody Houck had 18 points and 10 rebounds and made five 3-point shots, while Shira Buley had 17 points and six assists for TWC, ending its season at 24-5. Alexxis Knannlein had 16 points and nine rebounds for Siena Heights (26-8).

• Covenant College was announced this week as the sportsmanship award winner for women's basketball in the USA South Athletic Conference. Covenant also was the men's soccer honoree in the fall. The teams are chosen by league-wide player voting.

Baseball

• Tyler Latham went 3-for-5 with two home runs and nine RBIs as the Bryan College baseball team pounded visiting Baptist Bible 25-2 on Wednesday. Also for the Lions (15-10), Justin Marhardt was 4-for-4 with a triple, two doubles and three runs scored, Kevin Roberts was 3-for-4 with five runs, Garrison Price homered with four RBIs and Cody Rhinehart and Grant Zawadzki each had two hits with a homer and scored twice.

• A Society for American Baseball Research chapter is being formed in Chattanooga, and the group will have its first meeting Friday at 6 p.m. at Wally's Restaurant in East Ridge. The formal election of officers for the Choo Choo Chapter will come later, at a meeting hosted by the Chattanooga Lookouts, likely in mid-June, but all baseball fans and specifically anyone interested in SABR is welcome to attend Friday's session or to contact acting president David Jenkins at carty43@netzero.net or 423-622-8675.

Softball

• Caitlyn Lance from Ridgeland High School was 5-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored as the Carson-Newman softball team won 8-0 and 9-0 Tuesday at Bluefield College, and Jessica Morgan from Ooltewah was 4-for-5 with an RBI, a run and two stolen bases. Sara Kelley from Ooltewah homered and doubled in the first game, driving in three runs for the Lady Eagles (19-5), and added two RBIs in game two, when Hannah Morrison from Marion County was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

• Bryan College won 13-6 and 12-0 in softball games Tuesday at Berea, lifting the Lady Lions to 11-8. Becca Zimmerman and Heather Daniel each was 2-for-5 with five and three RBIs in the first game, Zimmerman with two homers, and Alexis Meadors was 1-for-2 with a homer and two RBIs. Katelyn Bowen was 3-for-3 with two homers and four RBIs and Olivia Gore was 3-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs in game two, when Katie Vaughn also drove in three runs, Kirstie Jennings was 3-for-3 with two runs and Kaitie Sims pitched a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts.

Golf

• Chase Miller from Dalton High School and Hunter Cornelius from Heritage helped the College of Coastal Georgia men's golf team win its third consecutive tournament Monday and Tuesday at the Oldfield Golf Club in Okatie, S.C. Dalton State finished fifth in the eight-team field. Miller finished in a three-way tie for first at 3-under-par 213 for 54 holes and lost in a playoff to Mariners teammate Dylan Freeman, and Cornelius closed with a 69 and tied for sixth at 217 in his first tournament after undergoing eye surgery. Coastal Georgia won by 21 strokes at 863. Dalton State shot 897, led by Tobi Ebner in seventh at 218 after a final-round 68. Chase Jones tied for 19th at 225, and Levi Nix and Tyler Mitchell shot 227 and 229.
