Alabama couple sentenced in fatal 2012 dog attack

PELL CITY, Ala. — A north Alabama couple has been sentenced in a September 2012 dog attack that killed their 83-year-old neighbor.

AL.com reports Jacqueline and Jerry Lenton, both 57 of Leeds, were sentenced Wednesday in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Jerry Lenton pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was given a 10-year split sentence. He's ordered to spend a year and one day in prison and five years on probation.

Jacqueline Lenton pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide and was given a suspended one year sentence. The woman was ordered to spend two years on probation.

Investigators have said two of the couple's Rottweilers attacked Don Thomas when he went to check his mail. Police shot the two dogs involved in the attack and seized many more from their home.
