Residents of Jaycee Towers who were displaced by a fire Monday will be returning to their apartments about 4 today, the Chattanooga Fire Department has announced.

The residents were moved from the Golden Gateway high rise after an electrical fire on Monday knocked out power to the building.

Fire Marshal Beau Matlock said power has been restored and the fire alarm system and backup lighting are operational.

That makes the building safe for occupancy, the release said.

Plans call for sending CARTA buses to the Red Cross shelter about 3:30 p.m. to begin picking up the residents so they can return to their downtown residence.
