Truck pulled from water in Knoxville linked to man last seen in 2010

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Police say an empty pickup truck pulled from a waterway has been linked to a man who was last seen in 2010.

Media reported that police have determined the Ford Ranger pulled on Thursday from water near the South Knoxville bridge is the vehicle Derek Ryan Funk was driving when he disappeared. Funk was last seen on the night of May 12, 2010 as he left a friend's house. He never arrived home.

Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk said the truck appears to have been in the water "for an extended period of time."

Investigators are processing the vehicle in an effort to gather more information about what might have happened to Funk.
