The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golf team finished eighth at 878 in the 15-team Linger Longer Invitational tournament Sunday on the Great Waters course at Reynolds Plantation in Eatonton, Ga. UTC was led by Liam Johnston, who closed with a final-round 72 to finish tied for 13th at 1-under-par 215 for the tournament. Ewan Scott tied for 23rd at 218 followed by Wes Gosselin (223), Chris Robb (225) and Davis Bunn (232).

• Covenant College won the one-day, five-team Bryan Invitational golf tournament Saturday in Dayton with a 319 aggregate score, while Bryan's Dean Haare was the medalist with a 77. Covenant's Cameron Lewis and Scott McKnight tied for fourth with 79s.

Running

• Both UTC distance medley relay teams finished second Saturday in the Alabama Relays at Tuscaloosa. Patrick O'Brien, DeQuantez Sandifer, John Gilpin and Lucas Cotter totaled 10 minutes, 8.54 seconds for the men in the 4000-meter event, and Teghan Henderson, Maddison Melchionna, Jessica York and Kianna Howard posted a 11:49.57.

• Tennessee Wesleyan's Avery Dodd from Red Bank and Roderick Bowman won the men's 100-meter dash and 10,000 run, respectively, in 10.80 seconds and 31:10.06 in the Emory Invitational track and field meet Saturday in Atlanta, and teammate Steven Dodd from Bradley Central was second in the 200. TWC's Gabe Pendleton was third in the high jump, and Joseph Mullen was fourth in the 5000. Emmanuel Kipchumba with a second-place 1:54.2 in the 800 and Mike Walker with a third-place 3:56 in the 1500 broke the Lee University records previously held by Lee coach Caleb Morgan. Camden Perez had another third for the Flames in the 3000 steeplechase.

• Eighteen-year-old Paul Patterson won the Rock/Creek River Gorge 10.2-mile race Saturday in the Prentice Cooper State Forest in 1 hour, 12 minutes, 25 seconds. Nathan Holland, 30, was second in 1:12:49, and Beth Meadows, 28, was the first woman finisher and 16th overall in 1:27:17. Cullom Boyd and Dee Goodwin were the 6.2-mile winners in 52:17 and 1:00:38.

Baseball

• Lee University lost 6-3 and won 4-3 against Shorter in a Gulf South baseball doubleheader Saturday at Rome, Ga., and the Flames won Sunday's game 11-10. Lee's Andres Nelo hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning of game two, when Nathan Wierzgac had two hits and Dustin Lawson got the pitching win with relief from Justin Bales and Grayson Bailey. Derrick Pitts was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks in the opener for Lee (21-9, 9-6). Ringgold's Colton Cross was the winning pitcher for Shorter (8-20, 5-11). Zacary Hawkins led the Flames on Sunday with three hits and three RBIs, and Pitts also had three RBIs. Pitts, Wierzgac and Siosi Poti each had two hits in the win, and Jeremy Bales picked up the win with 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief pitching.

• Tyler Troutt pitched a one-hit shutout and Zach Thompson, Andy Clay and Brennan Swindoll also pitched well as Chattanooga State swept Volunteer State in a three-game TCCAA baseball series this past weekend. Jared Wilson, Ryan Whitt, Brandon Day and John Flading had key hits for the Tigers.

Softball

• Ericka Bynum from Ringgold was 4-for-8 with a home run, seven RBIs and two runs scored as Shorter University beat visiting Lee 7-5 and 7-1 in Gulf South softball Saturday. Shorter won Sunday's series finale 8-0 in six innings. Maddie Bray from Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe pitched the 7-1 win for Shorter (22-9, 12-4), and pitched the final two innings of Sunday's game. Ana Coscorrosa was 2-for-2 with a homer and four RBIs in the first game and 2-for-4 with one RBI in game two for Lee (13-16, 6-9). Lexie Dean was 2-for-4 in each game and scored twice in the opener, when Dominique Hannah was 1-for-2 with a triple and two runs. Sunday, Shorter scored three runs in the second and never looked back. Shorter shortstop Kendall Johnson from Gordon Lee went 1-f0r-3 with an RBI and a run.

• Despite a 6-for-7 day for Heidi Daniel, the Bryan College softball team lost 7-3 and 7-4 to visiting Georgia Gwinnett on Saturday. Daniel was 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in game two, when Olivia Gore homered and singled. Becca Zimmerman was 2-for-3 with a triple, a double and an RBI in game one for Bryan (14-15).

• Covenant lost 6-1 and 4-3 in USA South softball Saturday at North Carolina Wesleyan, but Madison Quirk homered and Chandler Shepherd went 2-for-2 in the first game and Meagan Hess and Morgan Lane each had two hits in the rematch. The Lady Scots (8-18, 3-13) lost game two on a walk-off two-run double.

• Berry College swept Sewanee with two 11-0 wins in SAA softball Sunday. Abby Daniels from Ooltewah had a big day for Berry, going 4-for-5 with five RBIs and two runs in the doubleheader.
