The Knox County Sheriff's Department and the Civil Air Patrol confirm a World War II-era single-engine plane reported missing Sunday has been found near Calderwood Dam, Tenn., officials with the Federal Aviation Administration said today.

A Dehavilland DHC-1 aircraft with one person aboard was reported missing late Sunday after it didn't reach its intended destination in Canon, Ga., FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said in an email just before noon.

The flight departed French Lick, Ind., using "visual flight rules" and the plane was not receiving air traffic control service, she said.

Searchers were concentrating on an area adjacent to Calderwood Lake, she said. Calderwood Dam is about 18 miles south of Maryville, Tenn., near the Monroe-Blount county line.
