Two Times Free Press reporters — Stephen Hargis and Joy Lukachick — received first-place awards in the 2014 Tennessee AP Media Editors contest.
Lukachick was awarded the Malcolm Law Memorial Award for Investigative Reporting for her series of stories investigating Hays State Prison in Trion, Ga.
Hargis was awarded first place for sports and outdoors reporting.
In the Malcolm Law award, stories by the Tennessean on the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services received second place, and Times Free Press reporters Joan Garrett McClane and Todd South received third place for their series Speak No Evil.
Times Free Press multimedia reporter Mary Helen Miller received a second place award in video for her project One Day in Chattanooga.
In the feature photography category, Angela Lewis took second place and Dan Henry took third place.
Reporter Barry Courter received a third place in the feature writing category.
Speak No Evil also received a second place award in the multimedia category.
