Congressional candidate Weston Wamp is hitting the campaign trail, quite literally.

In a cul-de-sac near Coolidge Park on Monday, Wamp debuted what he called "the centerpiece of the campaign" -- a 7-ton Ford RV that will serve as his mobile headquarters, meeting space and hotel-on-wheels for the next four months as he challenges U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann for the GOP nod in Tennessee's 3rd Congressional District.

During that time, Wamp plans to spend three days a week traveling to all 11 counties in the district.

He said he would stay in Athens on Monday and end this first leg in Onieda on Saturday night, hitting Sweetwater, Kingston and Oak Ridge along the way.

"We will be effectively living in every hometown in the district over the next four months," Wamp said. "Some nights, I'll be staying in peoples' homes, some nights I'll be spending on the RV. ... We are going to take accessibility to the next level."

After this first week, Wamp said he will spend about three days a week traveling, and spending time in, all 11 of District 3's counties.

Wamp will be mainly traveling with his campaign coordinator, D. Winchester.

The RV, which gets 11 miles per gallon, cost just over $37,000, Wamp said. He bought it personally and is leasing it to the campaign.

"We will be doing business with a lot of gas stations in the 3rd District," Wamp said.
