A fire broke out at a vacant North Chattanooga house in a heavily wooded area Wednesday evening.

The blaze occurred across from the Kangaroo Express store at an abandoned home just north of where North Market Street turns into Dallas Road. Dispatch was notified at 7:35.

A police officer at the scene said there were no injuries.

Three firetrucks responded to the scene along with an ambulance.

Other law enforcement vehicles parked in the street to block traffic from passing through in the immediate area.

Niki Booth, a clerk at the store, called 911. She said the house was completely burned in less than five minutes and that she was afraid it may catch the power lines on fire or spread to the store.

"I just walked outside and heard a big boom," Booth said. "The whole thing went up in flames."

Fire crews remained at the scene past 8:30 dousing the building with water through the trees from a ladder on a fire truck.
