Business and job additions
The biggest new business investments announced in 2013 across Northwest Georgia and Southeast Tennessee were outside of Chattanooga and ranged across industries.
Engineered Floors LLC, Dalton, Ga. - The new carpet maker started by former Shaw Industries CEO Bob Shaw announced plans to spend $450 million and add 2,000 jobs over five years in Whitfield and Murray counties.
Great Lakes Cheese Co., Manchester, Tenn. - The Hiram, Ohio-based cheese processor plans to build a $100 million packaging plant near Interstate 24 that is expected to eventually employ up to 200 workers.
Shaw Industries, Ringgold, Ga. - The Dalton, Ga.-based floorcovering manufacturer is closing its 400-employee plant and replacing it with a new $100 million luxury vinyl plant.
GE Roper Corp., LaFayette, Ga. - The oven and stove maker announced an $88 million expansion, adding 90 jobs.
Mohawk Industries, Rome and Dalton, Ga. - The Calhoun, Ga.-based carpet maker will spend $85 million to expand its plants in Rome and Dalton, adding 420 jobs.
Denso, Athens, Tenn. - The Japanese automotive supplier is investing $55 million and adding more than 130 new manufacturing jobs to boost production of its gasoline direct injectors.
Shaw Industries, South Pittsburg, Tenn. - The carpet maker plans to invest $40 million in the South Pittsburg hardwood plant, adding 25 jobs.
Lodge Manufacturing, South Pittsburg, Tenn. -The century-old cookware maker announced a $34 million expansion to add another line and at least 20 more jobs.
Nissin Brake, Rock Spring, Ga. - The automotive supplier is investing $33 million and hiring 30 more workers to the 235-employee plant, which makes brake equipment for Honda and Acura vehicles.
WNA Chattanooga, Chattanooga - The plastic cup manufacturer is investing $21.7 million to boost production at its Chattanooga plant, adding 53 jobs.
