Chattanooga and Hamilton County offer several ways for residents to recycle items as common as newspaper and as dangerous as pesticides or batteries. Here's where to go or who to call to keep the area green:

Brush recycling

Those wishing to recycle brush may call 423-698-9531. Brush includes wood and plant waste. Brush piles cannot be larger than 96 cubic feet, or 4 feet wide, 4 feet tall and 6 feet wide. Small amounts of leaves, grass clippings and other waste no more than 2 feet wide and 2 feet long also are accepted.

Curbside pickup

Chattanooga offers curbside recycling pickup for cardboard, newspaper, unshredded paper, plastics No. 1 and No. 2, aluminum and steel cans. All items must be put in blue bags, clear bags or bins marked "Recycle" and do not to be sorted.

To find out if your area is covered by the curbside pickup program, call 311.
