The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball team won two out of three games in their weekend series at UNC Greensboro on Sunday.

The Lady Mocs (19-14, 5-2 SoCon) opened Sunday by finishing off the final inning of a 9-1 win in the first game which was delayed by rain Saturday. UTC then won the second game 2-1 before losing a 12-10 slugfest in the final game of the series.

After Jesslyn Stockard and Kaiti Dutton homered Saturday to help UTC build a 8-1 lead before rain halted play, Nicole Osterman added a solo shot Sunday to wrap up the win for starting pitcher Katie Henderson. Taylor Deason finished the game to pick up her fourth career save.

Deason and Henderson combined for another strong pitching performance in the second game of the series. Deason started and allowed two hits and one unearned run in four innings, but left with the game tied 1-1. Henderson finished the game's final three innings, holding the Spartans (14-17, 3-6) scoreless on two hits and a walke with three strikeouts.

Catcher Anyssa Robles knocked in both runs for the Lady Mocs on an RBI groundout in the first inning and a run-scoring single in the seventh. Both runs were scored by third baseman Sarah Beth Roberts.

In the final game, the pitching struggled but the UTC and UNCG offenses came alive. Robles and Osterman again hit home runs, and UNCG batters hit three homers as the two teams combined for 27 hits and 22 runs.

UTC fell behind 7-1 over two innings, but came roaring back with a four-run third and a five-run fourth to take a 10-7 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Spartans tied the game in the bottom of the sixth and won it in the bottom of the seventh when senior Katelyn Bedwell hit a walkoff, two-run home run to end the game.

Dutton continued her strong weekend, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Osterman had thre RBIs. Osterman, Robles and Criket Blanco each had two hits in the loss.

UTC will return home to play a nonconference doubleheader against Tennessee Tech on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. before hosting SoCon foe Elon for a three-game series starting Saturday.

Lady Vols sweep

The Tennessee softball team wrapped up a three-game sweep of No. 4 Florida on Sunday with a pair of victories. The Lady Vols (30-3, 7-1 SEC) won the first game 7-6 and ended the weekend with a 5-2 victory.

Tennessee fell behind 6-4 in the first game Sunday, but used a three-run sixth inning to get the win. Melissa Davin was 3-for-4 with a home run and three runs scored, and Meghan had two hits and a home run.

Davin was the hero in game two, hitting a leadoff home run in the fourth inning to spark UT to rally from a 2-0 deficit.

Davin and catcher hannah Akamine each had two hits in the win.

UT basball swept at USC

The Tennessee baseball team lost 8-0 to South Carolina on Sunday to finish an 0-3 series loss in Columbia, S.C.

It was the first time this season that the Vols have been swept in a series.

Tennessee did get eight hits, including a 2-for-3 day by catcher Tyler Schultz, but the Vols couldn't push a run across against Gamecocks starter Wil Crow or reliever Cody Mincey. UT starter Andrew Lee took the loss, allowing seven runs on 10 hits and four walks over four innings.

Tennessee will host East Tennessee State in a nonconference matchup Tuesday before hosting in-state rival Vanderbilt in an SEC weekend series starting Friday.
