Expect weekend delays on I-24 from GA state line to Nickajack bridge

Wednesday, April 30, 2014

Traffic slowdowns are expected this weekend as work continues to resurface Interstate 24 between the Georgia state line and the Tennessee River bridge at Nickajack Lake.

Between 10 p.m. today and 6 a.m. Monday EDT, some westbound lanes will be closed at mile marker 163.2 and 161.7 for concrete bridge deck repairs, according to a news release from the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

At least one lane will be open but major traffic backups are expected.

Milling and paving on both sides of the interstate will take place at night beginning Sunday, TDOT reported.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol will assist with traffic control as necessary during interstate lane closures.
