Taser used on woman

A high-speed chase involving a hit and run Tuesday in Eastdale ended with Chattanooga police officers using a Taser on a woman in the parking lot of a Family Dollar store on Wilcox Boulevard.

Police said 30-year-old Tasha Rogers drove through a stop sign at Dee and Greenwood roads. When police gave chase, she speeded up and ignored signals to pull over, according to a police report.

Rogers' car struck a vehicle driven by a 67-year-old man. The impact spun the car and her vehicle hit it again. She lost control and the car went off the road, through a yard, back onto the road, veered into oncoming traffic and left the road again and stopped.

Rogers ran and ignored orders to stop. An officer caught her in the parking lot and used a Taser on her three times before she stopped struggling and could be handcuffed, the report stated.

Officers learned the license plate on Rogers' car belonged to a different vehicle. She had no proof of insurance and was driving on a revoked license. She admitted to having marijuana in her car, and while police were searching her vehicle after receiving consent, they discovered a scale "commonly used for measuring drugs," according to police records. Rogers was taken to Memorial Hospital and then jailed on multiple charges.

Rental car taken, driver charged

A 27-year-old woman was jailed on auto theft charges Thursday, nearly five months after she rented a vehicle from Thrifty Car Rental on Shepherd Road. A representative at Thrifty told police that Jacquetta Love had rented a car on Dec. 13 using a credit card and never returned it. The vehicle was due back Dec. 16.

The car rental company told police that the credit card was declined. The value of the vehicle is $28,000.

Car hits porch, man arrested

Police arrested a 24-year-old man late Tuesday night on charges of driving under the influence and reckless driving after he crashed into a front porch while driving away from police. Devin Hayes told police he drank two Sprites at the Lookouts baseball game, but officers observed clues that indicated Hayes to be intoxicated.

Drug drop-off planned today

The seventh annual Community Health, Fun and Wellness Expo will be today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Chattanooga State Community College Health Institute on Amnicola Highway, a news release stated.

The event, free and open to the public, will include health screenings, exhibits from area health professionals and wellness-related organizations.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Narcotics and Special Operations Division is participating by conducting "Operation Medicine Cabinet" to provide the public the chance to drop off unwanted prescription medications.

The purpose is to keep medications out of the hands of children and the environment.
