A strong collection of field-events athletes helped propel Gordon Lee to its first Class A girls' track and field state championship Saturday at Albany, Ga.
Five Lady Trojans finished in the top three in seven field events, and one was second in a running event to outpoint second-place Marion County, last year's state champ, 81-74.
Anna Pettigrew led the way with 20 total points by winning both the pole vault and high jump. Shay Wooten won the shot put, Kaitlyn Lee won the discus and was second in the shot put and Madelyn Lee was second in the discus and Abby Bohannon finished second in the 3200 meters.
Addison Whitman placed third in the pole vault and sixth in the 400, and the Lady Trojans' 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams each finished among the top six.
