Headrick hits lack of Medicaid

Dr. Mary Headrick, Democratic candidate for the 3rd Congressional District, calls Tennessee's failure to expand its Medicaid program under the Affordable Care Act a "shameful moral failure."

In a news release, Headrick called on 3rd District residents to support "Moral Monday" rallies to "end this shameful political theater that does nothing but hurt the people of Tennessee."

A rally is scheduled in front of the McMinn County Courthouse in Athens at noon May 19, the release stated.

Headrick, a mother and grandmother and a physician with degrees in mathematics and computer science, is unopposed in the Democratic primary. She will take on the winner of the August Republican primary between incumbent U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann and challenger Weston Wamp.
