HCEA endorses commission, school board candidates

The Hamilton County Education Association has released its list of endorsements for Hamilton County school board and county commission races. County primary voting will be held Tuesday.

The teachers union made its endorsements based on questionnaires and interviews with candidates. The group chose candidates “whose responses and experiences were determined to be strongly aligned with supporting pro-public education policies, increasing school funding and including teachers and school employee voices in helping to shape the best working conditions and learning environments for children,” according to a news release.

Their school board recommendations were as follows:

• District 3 school board: Greg Martin

• District 5 school board: Jacqueline Thomas

• District 8 school board: Double recommendation for Samevelyn Rock and David Testerman

• District 9 school board: Steve Highlander

HCEA's county commission recommendations were as follows:

• District 1: Randy Fairbanks

• District 4: Double recommendation for Pam Ladd and Warren Mackey

• District 5 – Recommendation for Greg Beck

• District 6 – Recommendation for John Allen Brooks

• District 7 – No Recommendation

• District 8 – Recommendation for Kenny Smith

• District 9 – No Recommendation
