FORT RUCKER, Ala. - Aircraft maintenance and support workers are heading back to work at Fort Rucker now that a weeklong strike has ended.

The Dothan Eagle reports local union members of the International Association of Machinists voted Sunday to approve a new contract from parent company L-3 Communications. The vote ended a strike for the union's 3,000 workers who work civilian jobs at the Alabama Army post.

Union officials say 92 percent of local members approved the new five-year contract after federal mediators stepped in to assist negotiations with management.

Union spokesman Bob Wood says workers planned to return to their jobs for the first shift Monday morning.
