Verizon expands in Huntsville, Ala.

Verizon Wireless is adding 400 jobs in Alabama, mostly in the Huntsville area.

Company officials joined the governor in Montgomery on Tuesday to announce that more than 300 customer service positions will be created in Verizon's state headquarters in Huntsville.

The other positions will be in retail, mostly in North Alabama and in Birmingham and Dothan. The jobs will bring the company's total employment in the state to about 2,000 people.

Alabama officials said the state is not providing any financial incentives to get the new jobs.

Health care spinoff builds in Georgia

Kimberly-Clark is spinning off a $1.7 billion-a-year health care company that will locate its headquarters in the Atlanta suburb of Alpharetta, Ga.

The new company, to be known as Halyard Health, is expected to employ about 150 to 200 employees at the new 174,000-square-foot facility in Alpharetta.

The new headquarters complex will house corporate officers and various corporate functions including finance, IT, procurement, engineering and quality.

"As we embark as a new company, Halyard Health will draw on a rich heritage of leadership from Kimberly-Clark in infection prevention, surgical protection, respiratory health, digestive health and pain management," Robert E. Abernathy, future chairman and chief executive officer of Halyard Health, said in a statement.
