The NCAA announced Wednesday that the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golf and cross country teams have earned Public Recognition Awards for exceptional Academic Progress Rate performances in the latest multiyear compilation. That covers eligibility, graduation and retention figures in the 2009-10 through 20012-13 school years. The UTC golfers got a PRA for the third consecutive year; it was the second in a row for the runners, who had the nation's highest team grade point average for their sport last fall.

• The Chattanooga-area chapter of the Alabama Alumni & Friends will hold its 19th annual golf tournament June 9 at Lookout Mountain Golf Club. Lunch will be served from 11 to 12:30, and it will be followed by a shotgun start. Cost is $125 per player, and a reply is requested by June 1 to the Alabama Alumni & Friends Club at P.O. Baseball

• Top-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan bounced back from a 23-6 loss Tuesday night to fifth seed Bryan with a 5-3 win Wednesday afternoon that eliminated fourth seed St. Andrews from the Appalachian Athletic Conference baseball tournament. Brad Carpenter was 2-for-2 with three RBIs as TWC's Bulldogs earned an evening rematch with Bryan took an early lead.

• Host Lee University advanced to today's 4 p.m. championship game of the NCCAA Mid-East Regional baseball tournament with a 5-0 victory Wednesday against fellow Gulf South Conference member Union University, and Hiwassee College plays Union at 1 in the losers-bracket final after rocking Morthland College 19-2. Jeremy Stawychy pitched a 10-hit shutout for Lee (32-17), and Jordan Stewart was 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Cameron Brewster was 2-for-3 with a n RBI. Union starting pitcher Samuel Davis hit five Flames with pitches; Stawychy hit two Bulldogs. Chris Large was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Dalton Harrelson was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs for Hiwassee, while Garrison Sisson also had three RBIs and Randall Coley was 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBIs.

• Tyler Garner from Boyd-Buchanan and Chattanooga State batted .357 with an on-base percentage of .500, and he scored five runs and drove in three as 14th-ranked Southern Polytechnic won the Southern States Athletic Conference baseball tournament this past weekend. The Hornets (42-16) beat No. 4 and defending NAIA champion Faulkner 6-3 in the championship game and have won 18 of their last 20. Garner is hitting .354 with a .430 on-base rate for the season.

Golf

• Sewanee sophomore Emily Javadi from Chattanooga and Baylor School has been selected for the NCAA Division III women's golf tournament for the second straight year. A two-time All-Southern Athletic Association golfer, Javadi is ranked No. 8 nationally. She was a first-team All-American and the NCAA freshman of the year after a tie for 18th in the 2013 national tournament. This year's tournament runs Tuesday through next Friday at the El Campeon course in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

Tennis

• In addition to their teams playing this weekend in the NCAA Division III tennis tournaments, Sewanee's Bronte Goodhue, Lindsey Liles and Avery Schober have been included in the individual nationals that will follow the team wrap-ups in Claremont, Calif. It is the second successive year for Goodhue and Liles, who were 19-2 together in doubles and 19-2 and 19-0 in singles this season; Liles and her sister were All-Americans in doubles last year. Goodhue, who's from GPS, was the Southern Athletic Association women's player of the year for the second year in a row. Schober was 17-3 in singles and the SAA men's player and newcomer of the year.

Softball

• Union University beat Lee 7-3 in the NCCAA Mid-East Regional softball tournament first round Wednesday in Clinton, Miss. Lizzie Stevens was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Amanda Lynn was 2-for-4 with a double and the other RBI for Lee (23-23), which plays a losers-bracket game this morning.

Lacrosse

• ODAC champion Lynchburg (17-4) beat SAA champ Sewanee 25-4 in the NCAA Division III men's lacrosse tournament Wednesday at Lynchburg, Va. Michael Morris had two goals and two assists and George Bukawyn and Matthew Stiefel scored the other goals for Sewanee, ending its season 12-5.
