Courter: Things I wish my kids would ask me

Editor's note: Barry Courter has a 25-year-old son who is a college graduate and a 20-year-old daughter who is a sophomore in college.

Q: Dad, what's a good way to be noticed in a positive way at work?

A: Showing up on time every day is a good start. Mike Littlejohn told the 2011 spring graduates at UT Knoxville that he showed up 15 minutes early to every meeting. He learned a lot of little things in those 15 minutes just listening and after awhile everyone began assuming he was "in the know" and they started treating him as just. He moved up quickly.
