A Jasper, Tenn., doctor who pleaded guilty to 14 counts of illegally prescribing pain pills out of his women's clinic over the past three years was sentenced Thursday to three years in federal prison.
Dr. Charles Michael Howe pleaded guilty to all counts in a federal information document filed in November that he prescribed hydrocodone, oxycodone and methadone "not for a legitimate medical purpose" at least 14 times between October 2011 until June 2013.
Howe, 72, also must pay a $14,000 fine and his medical license has been revoked, according to court records.
The federal government also asked for the forfeiture of Howe's 2005 Ford Thunderbird convertible as property "intended to be used, in any manner or part, to commit, or to facilitate the commission, of offenses," according to court documents.
