A charge of attempted first-degree murder, more than a year old, finally caught up with a Tennessee man who's already spent the last 15 months in various Georgia lockups.

Julian Paul Rollings, 28, was picked up May 7 at Phillips State Prison in Buford, Ga., by a Hamilton County sheriff's deputy on charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated domestic assault, records show.

The charges stem from a Feb. 8, 2013, incident when his then-girlfriend, Danielle Stockwell, was thrown from a car.

When Stockwell knocked on the door of a home on Jackson Road in Soddy-Daisy that day, the homeowner took one look at the lacerations on her face, arms and hands and called police, according to an incident report.

Stockwell told Soddy-Daisy police Officer Brock Nunley that her boyfriend, Rollings, had thrown her from a moving car. She complained of severe head pain. Doctors at Erlanger later found bleeding in her brain and sent her to the intensive care unit.

Stockwell said a woman named Karen was in the car, too. She didn't know Karen's last name but had her phone number.

According to the police report, Karen confirmed what happened, but said she was scared of Rollings. She said she would come to the police department and give a statement, but she never showed up and police could not contact her.

A Hamilton County grand jury indictment lists a Karen Barnette, of Red Bank, as one of the parties summoned to testify. Attempts to reach Barnette for comment were unsuccessful.

Stockwell's brother, Travis Reed, told police that Rollings had beaten Stockwell before, and had a history of narcotics violations.

Police issued a warrant for Rollings on Feb. 9, 2013, and the grand jury indicted him two weeks later on one count of attempted murder and one count of aggravated domestic assault.

But Rollings wound up being arrested on another charge, in another state, the day after Stockwell was sent to the hospital.

According to the Dade County Sheriff's Office, Rollings was jailed there on a violation of probation charge from Feb. 9, 2013, until July 8, 2013.

Rollings was sent to Phillips State Prison on July 9, 2013, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections offender directory, and stayed there until the Hamilton County deputy picked him up last week. The Georgia Department of Corrections website indicates Rollings is now on parole.

Rollings was convicted of burglary in Dade County on April 27, 2007, records show, and his name appeared on a 2011 Dade County arrest report for March 3-10 without a charge specified.

The Dade County Sheriff's Office said Rollings is on a "restricted list" from the Georgia Crime Information Center and no information can be released on him or his charges.

The Tennessee Department of Correction Felony Offender Information website indicates Rollings is on probation until May 18, 2017, but doesn't say what crime he committed.

Rollings is in the Hamilton County Jail pending a May 23 arraignment before Judge Barry Steelman in Hamilton County Criminal Court.
